Electronic devices play an important role for our activities in the great outdoors. They are essential for navigating and documenting our adventures, for scientific surveys or acquisitions and even for rescue operations and disaster management. Nonetheless, charging electronic devices during long periods away from civilization remains a difficult task. Today, solar panels are the only available solution to this common problem, making the power supply completely dependent on weather periods with sufficient sunshine. This is why the Micro Wind Turbine proposes a novel alternative that can operate in harsh weather conditions and even at night. The design integrates all necessary components in one sleek unit and is focused on pack size, minimal weight and ease of set up.

If mountain bikers use saws and other tools, it's often to create wood features in the forest. Julia Hofmann used them for a different reason, though: to finish her bachelor thesis. No, she didn't assemble a series of wooden jumps and drops for school, but rather transformed a Series 2A Land Rover into her travelling bike caravan. Simply put, the German racer built her own dream vehicle, a two-wheeler's four-wheeler that she'll use to get to riding spots the world over. Below, she tells us the story of how it all came together.

“The MSR Snowshoe convinced the jury members because of its hybrid construction,” said Klaus Lehner of the ISPO Jury. “This combination offers a dual advantage of perfect grip on hard snow, and low weight of the snowshoe.”
