Presenting the opening keynote address at the National Earthquake Conference this week, Thomas Jordan, director of the Southern California Earthquake Center, painted an alarming picture of the likelihood of a major earthquake in California. “The springs on the San Andreas system have been wound very, very tight,” he stated. “And the southern San Andreas fault, in particular, looks like it’s locked, loaded and ready to go.”
